2nd Grade Private School

At Holy Trinity Episcopal School, we are proud to provide a well-rounded and bright educational future to our 2nd grade students. Our unique approach to education strengthens students’ personal and academic skills for life. Second grade is a particularly exciting time to attend HTES because it’s such a critical point in a child’s development.

Our second-grade curriculum focuses on helping students grow into people who are curious about the world and all it has to offer. It also helps them develop interpersonal skills through community outreach and values-based education.

Lower Elementary Education at HTES

In second grade, children begin to interact independently with and participate in the world around them. They develop a strong interest in what things are, why they happen, and what makes them important. HTES is proud to nurture and encourage this natural curiosity. Ultimately, our relationship-centered teaching inspires children to live meaningful, productive lives beyond the classroom.

Our core values lay a foundation that prepares students to go to middle school, high school, and beyond. We hold accreditation with the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES). In addition, HTES alums have gone on to attend a wide selection of elite colleges and universities.

A 2nd grade education at HTES instills our core values of respect, integrity, and compassion. It also helps prepare students for the academic and interpersonal challenges they will face later in life. We use relationship-centered teaching to set our students up for success.

The Value of Attending a Private School

Children who attend private elementary schools experience a whole host of benefits such as:

  • Small class sizes

Our 1st grade classes range from 16 to 18 students, allowing us to focus on each student’s unique needs.

  • Low student-to-teacher ratios

Our average student-to-teacher ratio is 6:1. We believe all children deserve hands-on, undivided attention from our experienced staff.

  • Personalized attention

With smaller classes and ratios, we have more time to focus on each child’s educational needs. For example, if we notice that your child excels with reading and math but struggles to make friends, we can help them develop stronger social skills.

  • Inclusiveness

We firmly follow the no-child-left-behind mindset. We include all students in all community and learning activities.

  • Parent communities

Getting involved in your child’s education helps them excel. We value partnerships among parents, teachers, and students.

  • Comprehensive education

We believe education is more than just books and numbers. We teach children valuable lifelong lessons rooted in our core values: respect, compassion, and integrity.

What To Expect From Our 2nd Grade Private School Curriculum

The second-grade curriculum at HTES focuses on expanding and refining skills. At this age, we turn early readers into lovers of chapter books and introduce essential skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We prioritize active learning exercises and hands-on lessons, and we believe that our children learn best by doing and experiencing.

Because this age is so critical to a child’s healthy development, second grade is one of the busiest years at HTES. This age is when children begin to discover their academic and social strengths on their paths to developing meaningful relationships with their true selves. Our Titans work on their fine and gross motor skills in physical education and bring out their creative side.

Our second graders look forward to expanding their language and humanities skills, including the following:

  • Collaborative class discussions about assigned readings
  • Refinement of grammar and sentence structures
  • Expanded vocabulary and self-expression

In science, technology, mathematics, and social studies, expect your second grader to learn about:

  • Basic geometry, multiplication, and division
  • Adding and subtracting two- and three-digit numbers
  • Telling time
  • History, basic economics, and civics
